Counsel NOLA News
Beginning in 2023, Counsel NOLA is proud to be elected by the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services to provide the Child First service model in the Greater New Orleans and Greater Covington regions of Southeast Louisiana. Child First is an intensive, early childhood, two-generation, home visiting model that helps families build strong, nurturing relationships that heal and protect young children (prenatal through age five years) from the impact of trauma and chronic stress, with the goal of healing. Child First strives to identify children at the earliest possible time to provide care for emotional and behavioral health, developmental and learning success, and connection with services and resources to support the family’s success/wellbeing/stability. Child First has been recognized as an evidence-based home visiting model by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) under the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Program and rated “Effective” by the National Registry for Effective Programs and Practice (NREPP) of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA).
Modern life takes a natural toll, and getting through can be a challenge.
Since 2014, Counsel NOLA has provided a variety of counseling services in the office, home and community to support individuals and families. The cost-effective and evidence-based menu of services we provide reflects our singular focus on helping individuals and families function better and improve their lives.
Along with assisting with the day-to-day challenges of individuals, couples and families, we have specialized experience addressing the needs of families in crisis or struggling through transition. Our services include:
- Homebuilders® Intensive Family Preservation
- Child First
- PCIT (Parent-Child Interaction Therapy)
- Substance Use Evaluations
- Individual, Couples and Family Counseling
- Group Therapy
- Professional Trainings and Workshops
We use techniques and treatments that have been shown to be effective and provide services that help keep parents out of court, away from Child Protective Services, and focused on the well-being and safety of themselves and their children. We strive to enhance each parents’ ability to make decisions, communicate effectively, and be more effective parents. We also teach a variety of skills to help children reach their full potential.
We structure our services based on the strengths and needs of each individual or family. Our approaches are supported by scientific evidence. Our Parenting Coordination services can substantially reduce the financial burden for families that would otherwise be subject to long, expensive court or legal intervention, not to mention the increased emotional cost to the family members.
Treatment enhancement techniques may include:
- Motivational Interviewing
- Cognitive/Behavioral Therapy
- Communication, Parenting, and Decision-Making Skills Training
- Trauma-informed Approach
- Conflict Resolution and Mediation
